The posters of actor Prabhas with a cigar in his hand have drawn the ire of the Guntur Urban Police who have decided to issue notices to the hero, director and producers of the film Rebel for violating provisions of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003.
Just a day before the release of the movie, across cinema halls in Guntur district, Urban SP Ake Ravikrishna on Thursday said that cases would be booked for violating Section 5 of the COTP Act, which bans the public display of smoking.‘No smoking’ badges
The latest flick of Prabhas is directed by Lawrence Raghava and has Tamanna Bhatia and Deeksha Seth in the lead roles. The movie is produced by J. Bhagavan and Pulla Rao. The SP addressed a press conference at the Kothapet Police Station where he displayed posters of the movie. Later, he went around the halls and pasted ‘no smoking,’ badges on the posters of the movie.
Mr. Ravikrishna, who has started a drive to ban public smoking in Guntur Urban limits, said the open display of smoking scenes by popular heroes could have a debilitating effect on youth. Public smoking was found to have catastrophic effects, particularly on women. He also cited the World Health Organisation’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control calling for stringent anti-tobacco measures by countries across the world. During the drive against public smoking, the police booked 7,848 cases and collected Rs.5.47 lakh by way of penalties.
